Performing Real-Time Social Recommendations on a Highly-Available Graph Database Cluster
Authors: Călin Constantinov, Cosmin M. Poteraş, Mihai L. Mocanu
Publication: IEEE
Recommendations are more likely to be of value as larger volumes of diverse data are analysed. While social-enhanced recommendation engines have the potential to provide very relevant information, they require optimal usage of computational power. As opposed to using conventional SQL databases on which complex queries are run at specific time intervals to store precomputed information, the novelty of a system based on a NOSQL or Graph database brings the advantage of using technology with analytical capabilities. For an application that models and processes information in the form of a social network, a graph database is promising because overall performance doesn't necessarily decrease as the database size grows, enabling handling of very large amounts of simultaneous requests while maintaining reasonable response times.
Performing Social Data Analysis with Neo4j: Workforce Trends & Corporate Information Leakage
Authors: Călin Constantinov, Lucian Iordache, Adrian Georgescu, Paul-Ștefan Popescu, Mihai Mocanu
Publication: IEEE
Not until long ago, performing a study on how the graduates of a University programme have integrated in the labour market was a tedious task, requiring questionnaires. Given the popularity of professional social networks, carrying out a survey is now much easier, as former students can simply export their online profiles while giving consent for processing their data. As a case-study, this paper uses professional information from alumni to model the local ICT workforce using Neo4j, the most popular graph database. By relying on data visualisation techniques, the resulting system allowed for uncovering valuable feedback and insights from this data, revealing workforce trends and discussing how corporate information can unknowingly get leaked on social media.
Preliminary Results of a Curriculum Adjuster Based on Professional Network Analysis
Authors: Călin Constantinov, Paul Ştefan Popescu, Cosmin Marian Poteraş, Mihai Lucian Mocanu
Publication: 2015/10 (IEEE ICSTCC)
The topics related to the structure, evolution and usability of social and professional networks are relatively new in computer science. We address using data from professional networks for adjusting an engineering specialization curriculum. We built an adaptive recommender system that consists of several tools to create a data pipeline, perform data analysis tasks and provide recommendations. Through automatic extraction of skills covered by syllabi, compared with LinkedIn profile information for alumni over 5 years, we provide feedback regarding the efficiency of learning programmes.
Benefits, Challenges, and Performance Analysis of a Scalable Web Architecture Based on Micro-Frontends
Authors: Adrian Petcu, Madalin Frunzete, Dan Alexandru Stoichescu
Publication: UPB Scientific Bulletin (UPB)
In recent years, there has been significant growth in software development in terms of how code is managed, load distribution, and the ease of adding new features to existing codebases. This paper explores the benefits and challenges of a scalable architecture based on micro-frontends, making front-end development more scalable and straightforward. Micro-frontends help overcome struggles with monolithic applications that are difficult to maintain or enhance.
A Secure and Decentralized Authentication Mechanism Based on Web 3.0 and Ethereum Blockchain Technology
Authors: Adrian Petcu, Bogdan Pahontu, Madalin Frunzete, Dan Alexandru Stoichescu
Publication: 2023/2 (Appl. Sci.)
Over the past decade, there has been significant evolution in the security field, specifically in the authentication and authorization part. This paper presents a decentralized authentication mechanism using Web 3.0 and Ethereum blockchain technology as an alternative to traditional OAuth 2.0-based authentication. The proposed system implementation uses Ethereum as the blockchain and modern web stack to enhance user interaction and usability, bringing benefits both to the private and the public sector.
